99.697 tons of commodities transited via Astara

Some 99.6 97 tons of foreign commodities have been transited via Astara in West Azarbaijan in the first three months of the current Iranian year (starting on March 21), showing an increase of 9 percent compared to the figure for the same period last year.

Announcing this, the managing director of Astara Customs Office put the value of transited commodities at dlrs 519.3 million, indicating a 66 percent rise over similar period last year.

Hossein Barzegar cited autos, machinery, foodstuff, poultry, cattle, rice and sugar as the main transited commodities to Caucasus.

"The decorative commodities from the UAE, Turkey, Iraq, South Korea and Pakistan are transited to Azerbaijan and Georgia via Astara," he said.

Astara (which is located in the north of Gilan province and in the vicinity of Azarbaijan Republic) has turned into the most active border city across the country.
