Iranian, Russian presidents urge expansion of ties

Iranian and Russian presidents, in a telephone conversation on Friday evening, called for further expansion of Tehran-Moscow ties.


President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran and his Russian counterpart President Dmitry Medvedev expressed the hope that the Saturday meeting of EU Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana and Iran's top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili on the country's peaceful nuclear program would be fruitful.

The Russian president voiced Moscow's interest in settlement of dispute over the Iranian nuclear program through diplomacy, and expressed his satisfaction with Tehran's readiness for comprehensive talks on the issue.

Underlining the need for further cooperation between Tehran and the International Atomic Energy Agency, President Medvedev called for removing all the ambiguities and settlement of the remaining issues.

The two presidents also expressed pleasure with the current level of Tehran-Moscow relations and termed it as very high.
