Pakistan's Sharif party quits ruling alliance

Islamabad, May 13, IRNA

Pakistan-Politics
Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced on Monday that his party's ministers have quitted the government after its failure to restore senior judges, deposed by President Musharraf under emergency rule in November.

Sharif's PML-N party formed coalition government with the Pakistan Peoples party after the February parliamentary elections.

"We had promised with the nation to restore all judges within 30 days after the formation of the government. But we failed to honour our commitment", Sharif told a press conference in Islamabad.

He said all ministers of his party will submit the resignations to the Prime Minister on Tuesday.

He said he had tried his best to get the restoration of judges. He said he went Dubai and talks were held in London, but no progress was made on this issue.

"PML-N has decided not to be part of any conspiracy which strong the hands of Musharraf", he said.

Nawaz Sharif vowed that his Party will continue its support to the democratic process and not to destabilize PPP government. He said we will not sit in opposition benches.

"I personally feel sorrow over quitting the government, but it is also a state of sorrow for me on non-restoration of judges", Nawaz Sharif said.

Nawaz Sharif said that we want the unconditional restoration of deposed judges with full honour and dignity. He said the Charter of Democracy can't recognize the judges who had taken oath under PCO and we do not want to be part of this affair. He said PML-N believes that justice can only prevail in the society in the presence of an independent judiciary.

PML-N Chief said a bloody drama was played in Karachi just a year ago in which fifty people were martyred and up-till now no FIR was registered.

He paid tribute to media for its role in promoting the case of independence of judiciary.

"Party has decided that I should contest the by-elections and my papers are being deposited in the Election Commission, he said.
