Tehran welcomes arrest of former Bosnian Serb leader

Foreign Ministry spokesman Hassan Qashqavi on Wednesday welcomed arrest of former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan aradzic after 12 years.

"Arrest of Radovan Karadzic, the former Bosnian Serbs leader, fter 12 years marks a historic and unforgettable moment and an important event," said Qashqavi on Wednesday.

He said, "Arrest of the war criminal, whose hands are stained with blood of thousands of innocent people, after 12 years marks a istoric and unforgettable moment as well as an important event which will satisfy majority of the Bosnian people and other world nations, especially Muslims, who have over the past 12 years been looking forward to his trial."
He hoped that arrest of other war criminals would ease concerns of the international community.

"We hope that arrest of other war criminals, involved in such inhumane catastrophes, that have hurt conscience of the international community, will to some extent soothe the sufferings of people in the region," he announced.

Qashqavi also hoped that a fair tribunal will be held to unveil to the world people the covert and untold dimensions of the war crimes and genocide perpetrated against Bosnians.

He said that arrest of Karadzic, as a person engaged in massacre of 8,000 Bosnian Muslims in Srebrenica in 1995, and his trial at the International Court of Justice, will be a turning point in the history of the world.
