All Indian four left parties have formally withdrawn their support for the UPA government.
The four parties comprise Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M), Communist Party of India (CPI), All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) and Rashtriya Socialist Party (RSP).
The general secretaries of the four parties met the president on Wednesday, handing over the letter of withdrawing support for the government.
Talking to media, the CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat said, the Left parties have requested the president to convene the Lok Sabha (Lower House of Indian Parliament) session soon and the prime minister may be asked to seek a vote of trust.
Meanwhile, the Samajwadi party (SP) leaders will meet the president this afternoon to hand over a new letter of support for the UPA.
The SP leader, Amar Singh has asserted that their party MPs will vote for the government in case of a trust vote.
