Iran's Ambassador to China Javad Mansouri on Tuesday expressed sympathy to China's Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi on the major earthquake which shook China resulting in heavy death toll and large number of casualties.

In his message, the Iranian ambassador said: "We, the Iranian nation and government, share the deep grief of the Chinese people and government and pray to God Almighty for the families of the victims." An earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale shook Wenchuan in Sichuan province, southwestern China, at 14:28 hours local time (0938 GMT) on Monday causing heavy losses in lives and property.
