1.5 tons of opium confiscated in Bandar Abbas

Some 1.5 tons of opium were confiscated in three operations in Hormuzgan province on Sunday.

A provincial police commander, Brigadier General Mansour Dashti, noted that some 212 kgs of opium were seized during the first operation in Minab in in which three persons were arrested.

Meanwhile, in second operation, 986 kgs of opium and 239 kgs of hashish were hauled from a passing vehicle in Minab.

During the third operation, 119 kgs of opium were discovered and confiscated from three bandits in Baba Gholam region in Bandar Abbas.

Iran, despite intensive anti-drug campaign of the Islamic Republic of Iran Police (IRIP), remains a key route for southwest Asian drugs on their way to lucrative markets in Europe and Persian Gulf countries.
