A panel discussion on the status of myth in painting was held at Saba Cultural Artistic Institute affiliated to Arts Academy on Tuesday.

Speaking at the meeting, Abolqasem Esmaeilpour, a researcher and mythologist, said that art and myth belong to the same category.

"They deal with a common subject and function in the same manner since they both speak using unconscious and symbolic language," he said.

Mythologists were the best artists of their own times because they had lost something and were after their dreams, he said.

Commenting on the reasons why mythology is dealt with in the current era of technology and rationality, Esmaeilpour also said that human thoughts use symbols, language and myths.

First definition for myth is that it is a symbolic expression for conveying human interpretation of the world, natural phenomena, champions, etc, he said.
