Head of Iran's National Carpet Center said that the country's attractions as well as beauties of Iranian carpets will be introduced to the world on cinema.

Speaking to IRNA Tuesday, Morteza Faraji said that 15 films by the same number of noted Iranian directors have been produced for the purpose.

The films have been submitted to the national and international festivals, he said, adding that in addition to this, a variety of attractive brochures have been published in different languages and distributed in most of the countries.

"Currently, Iran ranks first among carpet exporters in the world handling 40 percent of trade in the field," he said, noting that carpets worth of dlrs 425 million are sent abroad annually and this figure is expected to reach dlrs 750 million this year.

Stating that a total of five million square meters of carpets are woven in the country, Faraji also said that of this figure, four million square meters are exported.

To safeguard the identity of the Iranian carpet industry as well as the rights of weavers, specification cards will be issued for all the carpets produced in the country, he said.

East and west Azarbaijans, Isfahan, Khorasan Razavi, Fars and Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari are among the most important carpet producing centers of Iran accounting for 60 percent of the exported carpets.

He also said that a plan to provide insurance coverage to carpet weavers is being implemented and 150,000 have so far been insured as part of the plan.
