Brazilian Defense Minister Nelson Jobim said in spite of a recent statement by US officials his country does not consider Iran as a threat to Latin America.

Thomas Shannon, a senior official of the US government in Latin American Affairs, claimed last Wednesday that Iran is looking for allies in the Latin America region to confront traditional influence of Washington in the area.

Shannon added that Iran can use these countries to threaten security in the USA.

According to a news website, the Brazilian defense minister told reporters, "This is news to me. I do not work with theory. I have no information concerning this claim."
