Iran, Nicaragua for expansion of mutual relations

Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Samuel Santos Lopez conferred on Monday with his Iranian counterpart Manouchehr Mottaki on expansion of political and economic cooperation between the two countries.

At the meeting, the two ministers called the upcoming meeting of the presidents of Iran and Nicaragua in New York as a turning point in further expansion of bilateral ties.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is to confer with his Nicaraguan counterpart Daniel Ortega in New York during August-September.

According to Information and Press Bureau of the Foreign Ministry, the meeting between the two foreign ministers took place on the sidelines of the NAM ministerial meeting in Tehran.

The two sides also reviewed the latest regional and international developments along with expansion of political and economic ties between the two countries.

Mottaki voiced satisfaction with the current political development in Latin America and expressed Iran's readiness to help implement joint projects.

He also expressed the hope that the cooperation between the two countries will be further bolstered mainly in the energy sector.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is to deliver a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the 15th NAM ministerial meeting which is to kick off in Tehran on Tuesday.
