Iran, Iraq to sign cultural agreement

Head of Culture and Islamic Communication Organization (CICO) said Iran and Iraq will sign cultural, scientific and educational agreement on Tuesday on the sidelines of holding Iraq Cultural Week here.

Mehdi Mostafavi told IRNA the agreement consists of 54 paragraphs which will be signed during Iraqi cultural delegation visit to Iran.

President advisor continued, "Iraqi Culture minister was scheduled to head the cultural delegation, but because of changes in the Iraqi cabinet, he could not accompany the delegation and his deputy Jaber al-Jaberi will head the 170-person delegation to Iran.

Referring to the importance of presence of Iraqi cultural delegation to Iran, Mostafavi said, "It is the first cultural agreement to be signed between Iran and Iraq in the past 30 years." The Iraqi delegation is scheduled to travel to the cities of Mashhad, Isfahan and Qom, the official said, adding "Cultural and religious commonalities between the two nations have special importance in expansion of communication between Iran and Iraq." Iraq's Cultural Week will start on Tuesday July 22, 2008 here in Khavaran Cultural Center.

During the seven-day event, exhibition of book, plastic arts, showing films, performance of theater and playing music would be among various programs of the cultural week.
