Pakistan, India to begin new round of dialogue on July 21st

Pakistan and India will hold on July 21st the next round of high level dialogue to discuss issues ranging from the long-standing Kashmir dispute to trade promotion, officials said.

Both countries have held four rounds of the 'Composite Dialogue' process started in 2004 and the 5th will be held in New Delhi on Monday, the Foreign Ministry said.

"The fifth round of Pakistan-India Composite Dialogue would be launched on 21 July 2008 in New Delhi with the Foreign Secretary-level talks on the segments of 'peace and security including CBMs' and 'Jammu and Kashmir'" a statement said.

The Pakistani delegation will be headed by Mr. Salman Bashir, Foreign Secretary of Pakistan, it said.

During the talks, both sides will look into the prospects of a just and peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, the statement said.

The talks will also focus on the issues of peace and security, it said and added that implementation of various conventional, nuclear and cross-LoC confidence building measures will be reviewed and possible new CBMs will be discussed.

The visit will also provide an opportunity for the two foreign secretaries to discuss other areas of bilateral cooperation, the statement said.
