German FM hails formation of new Lebanese national unity gov't

Berlin, July 12, IRNA

Germany-Lebanon-Steinmeier
German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier welcomed the formation of the new Lebanese national unity government, ending a bloody political dispute which lasted several months.

Steinmeier said in press statement that the creation of the new unity cabinet was "another important step towards ending the political crisis."
"A stable, sovereign Lebanon is an important contribution towards stability and security of the whole region," he added.

The new government is facing major challenges like imposing security and reforming Lebanon's electoral law, Steinmeier pointed out.

Earlier in the day, Lebanon formed a national unity government in which Hizbollah and its allies have a veto power in the
decision-making process, as agreed under an agreement brokered in Qatar that finally stopped a deadly political conflict in the Arab country.
