India has approached the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), with a draft safeguards accord to seek its approval. This is a crucial step towards operationalising the Indo-US civil Nuclear Deal.

The draft New Delhi has hammered out with the International Atomic Watchdog earlier, has been sent to the 35 nation board, Wednesday, All India Radio (AIR) reported here quoting IAEA spokesperson.

Diplomats say, the meeting is likely to take place on July 28.

Meanwhile, the US president has pledged full support for the nuclear cooperation agreement.

G-8, in its declaration at Saporro, Japan said, that the group is looking forward to working with India, the IAEA and the NSG and other partners, to take forward New Delhi's non-proliferation commitment and progress.

The declaration says, it will facilitate a more robust approach to civil nuclear cooperation with India to help meet its growing energy needs.

Briefing reporters, on board the PM's special aircraft from Saporro to New Delhi, Foreign Secretary, Shiv Shanker Menon said, civil nuclear cooperation remained the focus of discussions with President Bush and other leaders on the sidelines of the G-8 summit.
