Iran, third major investor in Malaysian industry: envoy

Iran's Ambassador to Malaysia said Monday evening that Iran is the third major country that has made investment in Malaysia's industrial sector.

Addressing a group of Iranians residing in Malaysia, Mehdi Khandaqabadi quoted reports of the Malaysian Industrial Development Authority as saying that the Islamic Republic of Iran ranks third after Germany and Japan.

Referring to expansion of Tehran-Kuala Lumpur bilateral relations, he said the two nations have enjoyed cordial ties in the past few years.

He further referred to three visits to Malaysia of the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, as indications to the existing amicable ties between the two nations.

The two countries share identical views regarding several world issues, the Iranian ambassador said appreciating Malaysia's support for Iran's peaceful nuclear program.

Signing over 22 memoranda of understanding in different areas is a product of the two countries fruitful cooperation. The value of the inked agreements in the past two years has exceeded dlrs 50, Khandaqabadi reiterated.

Ahmadinejad's third visit to Malaysia took place on Monday in order to attend the sixth Summit of the Developing Eight (D8) Islamic Countries which started in the Malaysian capital this morning.
