Pakistan to send relief assistance to Myanmar

The Government of Pakistan has decided to send two plane loads of relief goods for the people affected by recent cyclone in Myanmar, the Foreign Ministry said.

Myanmar says nearly 23,000 have died and 42,000 missing as the result of Nargis -- the worst cyclone to hit Asia since 1991.

"Relief includes items like the tents, mosquito nets, medicines, etc. The relief aircraft are expected to leave for Myanmar tomorrow," a Foreign Ministry statement said.

The UN has launched a dlrs 187m appeal for aid.

It says as many as 1.5 million people could have been affected by the cyclone, which struck on May 3.
