Epileptic patients banned from driving

Epileptic patients are banned from driving and would no longer be given a driving licence, it was reported on Monday.


Senior police officer in charge of issuing driving licences, Colonel Hassan Rezaei, told IRNA that the decision was made based on the article six of the driving laws approved three years ago.

Based on the article, driving is totally forbidden for those inflicted by epilepsy.

Colonel Rezaei added that the driving licence of the present epileptic patients would be expired for a three-year period and They would be given new licences to drive only private cars after a high medical council confirmed their health condition and qualification after the period.

The colonel added that new applicants for driving licence would undergo special medical tests to diagnose the disease.
