Iran's top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili on Friday advised Americans to avoid making previous mistakes.

"From our standpoint, what's of importance is that with what an approach will he (the US Undersecretary of State Williams Burns) attend the (Iran-G5+1 nuclear) talks," Jalili told reporters before leaving Tehran for Geneva where he will take part in talks with the EU Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana on Saturday.

Jalili said that if Burns attends the meeting with a constructive approach and avoids making the past mistakes, the talks will definitely be constructive.

"More than the people attending (the talks) is type of (their) approach which is important. If he (Burns) makes presence with a constructive approach and avoids making past mistakes, we will definitely have constructive negotiations," said Jalili.

He then said he will raise Iran's proposal in the Geneva talks and hold talks with the other party on the two sides' ideas on continuation of talks.

Asked on the aim of his visit to Geneva and the trip's agenda, Jalili said the visit is in line with the moves that Iran and the G5+1 had recently made.

"We have proposed a package for constructive cooperation with a collective approach in connection with common concerns. Our approach and logic are clear in the package. In turn, they have presented a package, sent a letter and raised an idea for continuation of talks.

As we promised during visit of Solana and the G5+1 directors general to answer their letter, the Islamic Republic of Iran's response to foreign ministers of six countries was offered in less than three weeks.

"Moreover, we had promised them to investigate their proposed package and idea for continuation of talks and we did. We too have a proposal in turn. We will in the visit talk on commonalties of the two packages and the two sides' ideas on continuation of talks," he added.
