Germany-Iran-Mohtaj
Germany and Iran will step up joint efforts to combat narco-trafficking, deputy interior minister August Hanning on Thursday told IRNA following his talks with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Mohtaj in Berlin.
"We have agreed to strengthen coop. I would like to remind you that Germany is intensely involved fighting drugs in Afghanistan and also Europe", Hanning said.
"But joint intensive efforts are needed and today's talks served as an important contribution," he added.
Hanning hailed Iran's tireless war on drugs and vowed that his country would also play a greater role in boosting joint
anti-narcotics cooperation.
The German official visited the Iranian-Afghan border region last year.
Meanwhile, Mohtaj pointed to "very good and useful" talks with German Interior Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble on Wednesday.
Referring to his meeting with Hanning, the Iranian official said it dwelt on fighting the international drug mafia, terrorism and security in war-stricken Afghanistan.
He stressed good progress had been made in the talks which he termed "very good, positive and constructive."
