Tehran urges peaceful settlement of Darfur crisis

Tehran, July 15, IRNA

Iran-Sudan-FM
Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Tuesday that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always called for peaceful settlement of Darfur crisis.

He reiterated Iran's support for the Sudanese popular government led by President Omar al-Bashir.

"We believe that the Sudanese government is able to settle Darfur crisis through dialogue," he said.

Tehran also believes that exerting any pressure on the Sudanese government and leaders by international groups and organizations is vain and useless, he said, adding, "Such a move would make the situation more complicated."
Denouncing the selective performance of the International Criminal Court, the Iranian foreign minister called for a fair approach toward war criminals in the occupied Palestine, Iraq and Afghanistan.
