140 works in West Azarbaijan up for national registration

Some 140 natural and spiritual works in West Azarbaijan province have been identified for registration on national heritage list, said deputy head of the provincial Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department for preservation and revival affairs.


Asad Alizadeh further said that the works include traditions and customs, public ceremonies, festivals held at natural attractions throughout the province such as lagoons, springs, cascades, rivers and natural sceneries.

He further said that the case of the works are complete and ready for national registration.

Referring to the significance of maintaining historical monuments, he further said that this year protective precincts have been determined for 30 historical monuments and 50 ancient sites.

Some 1,200 historical and cultural relics have so far been identified in West Azarbaijan, which has beautiful natural attractions including forests, pastures as well as natural landscapes.

Two historical monuments in the province namely Takht-e Soleiman in Takab and Qare Kelisa have been registered on the Global Heritage List of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
