Since Iran has unique historical, cultural and natural tourism attractions, its tourism industry has the potential to replace oil as a source of revenue.
Expressing this on Wednesday at the International Conference on World Trade in Furniture, Home Designing, Interior Decoration, deputy head of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO) for tourism affairs Mohammad Sharif Malekzadeh said that certainly over-reliance on oil alone are among the reasons for the underdevelopment of the national economy.
He further said, "In the past three years, a considerable growth was witnessed in the tourism industry thanks to efforts made as well as active presence in international tourism scenes."
This trend will continue until the objectives are materialized, he noted.
Referring to the country's capacities and potentials in the field of tourism, he said that effective information dissemination and professional use of the blessings will play crucial role in the development of tourism industry.
Stating that Iran is among the first five and top ten countries in terms of natural attractions and historical attractions respectively, Malekzadeh also said necessary conditions for taking advantage of the capacities should be prepared through interaction and national resolve.
Describing furniture and decoration as among the necessary means to promote tourism, the official said that foreign tourism in the initial stage attends to the target country's art and civilization.
"Iranian art is unparalleled in the fields of designing and handicrafts," he said.
First International Conference on World Trade in Furniture, Home Designing, and Interior Decoration which is attended by experts from Italy, Britain, Germany, Austria, Turkey, Malaysia, China, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan Republic and Turkmenistan is currently underway and will conclude on Thursday.
