Victims of air tragedy honored as example of US crime

Victims of the air tragedy caused by the US warship which opened fire on Iranian passenger plane over the Persian Gulf were commemorated on Wednesday.


People had gathered in the tragedy area to mark the 20th anniversary of downing an Iranian passenger plane by US warship, USS Vincennes, in the Persian Gulf in 1988.

The site of the crash was showered with flowers.

A large number of people, including 60 artists attended the ceremony and expressed their hatred at downing of the passenger plane by US warship in 1988.

During the ceremony, slogans such as "Death to the US" and "Death to Israel" were chanted.

An Iranian passenger plane bound for Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, was shot down by the US warship 'USS Vincennes' shortly after take-off from Bandar Abbas on July 3, 1988.

All the 290 passengers and crew on board including 65 children, were killed.
