Russia-Bushehr Power Plant
Head of Rosatom State Nuclear Corporation Sergei Kiriyenko said Bushehr Power Plant would be completed on due time.
Russian News Agency "Itar-Tass" quoted Kiriyenko as saying on Monday that Rosatom State Nuclear Corporation (RSNC) and
Atomstroyexport (construction contractors for Bushehr Power Plant) do not intend to change completion time.
A contract for construction of the power plant was signed between Iran and Russia in 1995 according to which the plant was sheduled to be completed in 2000, but its completion was delayed several times for different reasons.
According to the agreed time table, Bushehr power plant is to be operational in Autumn 2008.
Concerning recent holding of a consignment related to the Bushehr power plant equipment in Azerbaijan Republic border customs, Kiriyenko said it was a result of misunderstanding and not a dispute and added Atomstroyexport submitted all necessary documents to the Azeri side."
Azerbaijan Republic border Customs officials held a consignment of equipment for Bushehr power plant on March 29, 2008 and said it might be violation of the UN Security Council resolutions, but it was released after 33 days when the Russian and Iranian officials followed the case.
Kiriyenko said, "Russian nuclear cargo has not been transferred through Azerbaijan Republic territory for a long time and it was the cause of the mistake and the Azeri customs officials should get used to handle the case in the future."
