FM sends condolence message to Chinese counterpart

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki here on Tuesday cabled a message to his Chinese counterpart, in which he expressed sympathy over the killer quake which devastated parts of the country and left over 10,000 people dead.


Mottaki offered the heartfelt sympathy of the Iranian nation and government to the quake-stricken people, the families of victims and the government.

In his message to Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Mottaki expressed deep regret over the loss of thousands of Chinese people, Nearly 10,000 people were killed in the 7.9 magnitude earthquake that rocked Sichuan province in southwest China on Monday.

According to reports, the number of victims of the killer quake, China's worst earthquake in three decades, is likely to increase.

The Sichuan quake was the worst to hit China since the 1976 Tangshan quake in northeastern China where up to 300,000 died.
