Iran, Turkey urge expansion of ties

Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki and Turkish Minister of State Kursad Tuzmen here on Wednesday called for boost in bilateral economic cooperation.

Expressing his satisfaction with the current level of bilateral trade and transportation cooperation, the Iranian minister underscored the need for materialization of joint economic objectives in the near future, towards which some big steps have already been taken.

Mottaki reiterated that in order to bolster trade relations between the two countries, change in the traditional viewpoint regarding rail transportation is needed.

Underlining the need for expansion of Tehran-Ankara economic ties, the Turkish minister said that the two countries' senior officials are determined to increase the volume of trade exchanges to dlrs 20 billion by 2011.

He added that decrease in the regional customs tariff will help trade growth.

Tuzmen also called for removing the existing obstacles in the way of border trade exchanges.
