Iran believes the best solution to Lebanon's political crisis is the national unity, Foreign Ministry spokesman, Mohammad-Ali Hosseini, said on Sunday.

"The current situation in Lebanon can be dealt with in an acceptable way through holding negotiations and reaching agreement by all domestic groups," Hosseini told reporters at his weekly press conference.

He said Tehran has repeatedly stressed that the Lebanese people are the ones who should decide how to resolve the current political crisis in their country.

"The way out of the Lebanese tension is completely domestic and should be eased by the Lebanese themselves. No one else can decide for the people of Lebanon," Hosseini added.

"Iran would welcome any effort leading to a proper way out of the current deadlock in Lebanon," Hosseini said voicing Tehran's readiness to help in this connection.

He said that Iran has repeatedly warned that Israel and its ally, the United States, stir up tension in Lebanon using all within their reach in order to ignore different Lebanese parties.

The Lebanese political parties must develop comprehensive understanding which would help boost national unity as well as security and stability inside Lebanon, Hosseini said.

The spokesman added that the US and Israel are using their media to sow discord by saying that the current tension in Lebanon were resulted from conflicts between followers of various religions in that country.

Hosseini criticized certain European countries for their indifference towards the ongoing situation in Lebanon and in the Middle East.

"Some European parties that were active in the region and in Lebanon in the past, are now just passively witnessing the imposition of the US-Israel policies while they could play an effective role in resolving the problem," Hosseini said.

He added that Israel was trying to take revenge from the Lebanese people after its humiliating defeat on the 33-day war against the defenseless people of that country in (August-July 2006).
