Girls school blown up in Pakistan's northwest

Islamabad, July 25, IRNA

Pakistan-Attacks
Unidentified men have blown up building of a girls school in Pakistan's restive Swat valley in the northwest, police and witnesses said Friday.

Over 50 schools, most girls educational institutions, have been blown up or burnt in Swat last month, the provincial government says.

Police said that fresh attack on the girls school happened last night at Kabal area of Swat, destroying completely five rooms of 10.

The blast also caused damage to other five rooms and the building could not be used for schooling.

Unidentified persons had placed explosives at the school, located around 500 meters from the check posts of police and army, locals and police said.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack. But such attacks are blamed on militants.

Attacks on girls schools and government buildings are continuing despite a peace deal between the government and the militants in Swat in May.

Local Taliban had committed in the peace deal not to attack girls schools and government buildings.

In another incident, a cloth market was also blown in the region, destroying ten shops in the building.

Unidentified men also burnt a hair dresser shop in the area.
