Manmohan Singh wins vote of confidence

New Delhi, July 22, IRNA

India-Trust Motion-Wins
Dr Manmohan Singh Tuesday evening won the vote of confidence as prime minister of the United Progressive Alliance government by the margin of 19 votes.

The trust motion was sought by prime minister in the wake of Left withdrawing support to his government over the Indo-US nuclear deal on July 9, 2008.

He received 275 votes in favor and 256 against.

Manmohan Singh was the first prime minister who did not vote on a trust motion since he is not a member of the Lok Sabha.

It was the first time since 1989 when a PM sought a trust vote after four years in office.

Six PMs starting from V P Singh had faced a trust vote within the first two years in office.
