India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Thursday met the President Pratibha Devisingh Patil to discuss the latest political developments.
In the meeting, Singh conveyed to the President that he would seek trust vote in the Lok Sabha (Lower House of Indian Parliament).
During a meeting that lasted for 30 minutes, Singh conveyed to the President that the date of the special session would be conveyed to her by Friday evening.
The President on Wednesday requested the Prime Minister to meet her to discuss the political developments in wake of the left party's withdrawal and Samajwadi party's fresh letter of support for the UPA Government.
The meeting took place in the backdrop of Government's assertion that it may convene a brief session of Parliament to seek a trust vote before going ahead on Indo-US nuclear deal.
Ahead of the crucial meeting, the Congress Core Committee met at the residence of Prime Minister Thursday evening.
The party chief Sonia Gandhi, Union Ministers, Pranab Mukherjee, A K Antony and Shivraj Patil, and other senior leaders attended the meeting.
The UPA allies will meet on Friday morning to decide future political strategy.
Meanwhile, India has circulated the draft of the Safeguards Agreement with the IAEA, among its 35 Board members.
New Delhi went to the IAEA after the G-8 nations and the US president pledged full support to the Nuclear Cooperation agreement.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh returned home Thursday morning after a three-day visit to Japan during which he met world leaders including US President George W Bush on the sidelines of the summit of the Group of Eight industrialized countries(G-8).
The Left parties had on Wednesday submitted letters announcing snapping of ties with the UPA Government and also submitted a list of 59 MPs and a joint letter signed by leaders of -- CPI-M, CPI, RSP and Forward Block -- asking the President to direct the Prime Minister to seek a vote confidence in the Lok Sabha immediately.
