Frankfurt still Germany's drug capital: report

Frankfurt remains Germany's drug capital, the daily Bild newspaper reported Tuesday quoting a report by the Federal Crime Office (BKA), based in the southwestern city of Wiesbaden.

According to the BKA 2007 crime statistics, there had been 928 registered drug offenses per 100,000 Frankfurt residents.

Police linked special factors for Frankfurt's nationwide number one drug status like its airport, railway station and major highway system.

Other cities in the top five narcotics crime range were Hanover with 825 counts per 100,000 inhabitants followed by Augsburg (645), Duesseldorf (635), Hamburg (615) and Bremen and Kiel with each 600.
