Srebrenica massacre masterminds not brought to justice 13 years on

London, July 4, IRNA

UK-Bosnia
The Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) has expressed concern at the lack of global attention over the failure to bring the perpetrators of the Srebrenica massacres in Bosnia to justice after 13 years.

The massacres, in which an estimated 8,000 Muslims were mercilessly slaughtered in a so-called UN 'safe haven,' were the largest genocide on European soil since World War II.

"It is tragic that this latest massacre and genocide in Europe has received such silence from the international community as a consequence, let alone from Europe itself," said IHCR chair Massoud Shadjareh.

"While this has no doubt had a tremendous impact on the Muslim community, how does this stand in light of the world's post-Holocaust commitment to 'never again'?" Shadjareh questioned.

IHRC called for efforts to be made to locate former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic and his commander Ratko Mladic, the masterminds of the Srebrenica genocide, and bring them to justice.

In the light of the lack of attention, how are present-day Muslims meant to regard discussions about shared values? it asked, given that the panic-stricken response to 9/11 justified a war which has cost upwards of 90,000 civilian casualties in Iraq.
