President Pratibha Patil arrived in Srinagar Friday morning on a five-day Jammu and Kashmir visit.
The Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad along with Governor and Cabinet Ministers, senior civil and military officials, received Patil at the airport.
President, who will visit to Line of Control (LoC) during her five -day visit, is accompanied by Saifuddin Soz, Defence Secretary and Army Chief.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made with the deployment of nearly 700 security personnel in view of the President Pratibha Patil's visit in Bhadarwah on 25th May to inaugurate the newly built campus of the Jammu University.
At least 700 personnel of the CRPF, IRP and state police have been put on guard in and around the venue of the President's program following intelligence inputs about stepped up militant activities across Jammu region, a senior police officer said.
Special Task Force of the state police and the army have set up security pickets in the upper reaches of the district to seal the possible entry points of militants from adjoining areas, they said.
About 1260 Village Defense Committees have been activated to maintain 24-hour vigil in villages on the outskirts of Doda district to thwart any militant designs.
All the roads leading into the interiors of the district will be closed from Friday to prevent the entry of unwanted elements and patrolling along the highway will be intensified, the officer said.
