No plan for natural gas rationing in Iran - MP

Head of Islamic Parliament's Energy Commission said here Wednesday in an interview with IRNA Petroleum Ministry has no plans for rationing natural gas in winter of 2009.

Mohammad Reza Katouzian made the comment in an exclusive interview with IRNA Economic Desk reporter, adding, "In order to avoid the shortage that the country was entangled with regarding increased natural gas usage in winter last year, the Petroleum Ministry officials are trying to expand their activities in South Pars Gas Field in a number of phases and to inject the natural gas of that huge field into the nationwide natural gas network."
Pointing out that the parliament has still not been detailed about the Petroleum Ministry's moves in that respect, Katouzian said, "The Parliament's Energy Commission has commissioned two of its members to survey about the Petroleum Ministry and the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) activities regarding providing the nation's required natural gas in winter season and to report to the commission." The Tehran Constituency MP assured the nation that the Parliament's Energy Commission would pursue the matter seriously, adding, "If there would be need to taking advantage of the parliament's legal authority to solve the problem, we would not hesitate in doing so."
