Iran-Carpet Export
Handwoven carpet export increased by five percent during March 20-June 20 compared to the figure for the corresponding period in the past year.
Announcing this, head of Joint Stock Carpet Company, Seyyed Jalaleddin Basam told the inauguration ceremony of the First Specialized Exhibition on Handwoven Carpet and Furniture in Karaj, Tehran province, that carpets worth of dlrs 71 million have been exported within the period.
Last year, a total of dlrs 398 million of handwoven carpets was exported abroad, he noted.
Referring to the status of Iran's carpet industry in the world markets, Basam further said that, Iran's handwoven carpet has the potential to match modern home furniture because of its diverse color and pattern, in addition to its high quality.
The exhibit, which will continue until Aug 17, showcases 365 various carpets and Gabbeh, an intricately designed rug.
