Iran, Russia underline need for expanding North-South Corridor

Iranian and Russian officials on Wednesday underlined the necessity of expanding the North-South Corridor.


In a meeting, Evaz Bahmanzadeh and Yaconin, officials in charge of North-South Corridor, called for thriving the route more than ever.

Bahmanzadeh said that Head of Road and Transportation Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Bokharaie and Head of Railroad of the Federal Republic of Russia Yaconin underscored the necessity of developing all passages and transport paths.

Given the status of Iran and Russia in the international transit and transport corridor, both sides emphasized the need for flourishing the active corridors more than ever.

In the meeting, the two officials gave priority to expansion of railroad in North-South Corridor between the both countries and studied their programs for completion of rail infrastructure as well as resumption of mutual road transportation, Bahmanzadeh added.

They also underlined the need for technical and economic investment in the field of construction of Qazvin-Rasht-Anzali-Astaneh railroad.

The Iranian side also called for lifting drivers' passports between the two neighboring countries, noting that the measure can lessen transport costs in the North-South Corridor.
