Slight rise in inflation in India

New Delhi, May 9, IRNA

India-Inflation-Rise
Inflation in India has risen to 7.61 per cent for the week ended April 26.

It was 7.57 in the previous week. The rate is the highest in 42 weeks.

The rise has been attributed to higher food prices.

The index for Primary Food Articles rose by 0.3 per cent to 238 from 237 for the previous week.

The index for the Food Articles group rose by 0.5 per cent to 230 from 229 for the previous week.

According to official media report, the rise is due to 11 percent hike in price of tea and three percent increase in prices of condiments and spices.

Fish rose by two per cent while fruits and vegetables by one per cent.

However, the prices of urad, arhar and eggs declined.

Steel manufacturers have also cut prices by Rs 4,000 a tonne on flat products to put a leash on spiraling inflation.

The index for Non-Food Articles group declined by 0.2 per cent to 228.2 from 228.6 for the previous week due to lower prices of rape and mustard seed by four per cent.

The fodder and castor seed declined by two per cent each.

The index for 'Fuel, Power, Light and Lubricants' group remained unchanged at its previous week's level of 342.5.
