China recognizes Iran's nuclear right

Beijing, Aug 7, IRNA

Iran-China-Nuclear
Chinese Vice-President Xi Jinping said on Thursday that Beijing officially recognizes Iran's right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

Xi made the remark in a meeting with the visiting Iranian Vice-President and Head of the Physical Education Organization Mohammad Aliabadi.

He said that all countries should be committed to international regulations and treaties on non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and added that Beijing stresses that ongoing disputes over Iran's nuclear case should be resolved through negotiations.

He expressed hope that Iran would take constructive measures to help settle the nuclear case.

Xi said that Tehran and Beijing share strong amicable relations, adding the Chinese government attaches significance to Iran's regional and international position.

Aliabadi said that with regard to the nuclear case, Iran has always taken measures towards its peaceful purposes.

He added that the Iranian government and nation would strongly defend their inalienable right to peaceful nuclear technology, saying, "No government or power has the right to monopolize the use of science and know-how."
The Iranian vice-president hoped that certain powers would not obstruct peaceful settlement of disputes over Iran's nuclear dossier.

Iran expects China, as a veto holder of the UN Security Council, to make further efforts on Iran's nuclear issue.

Aliabadi arrived in Beijing Thursday at the head of a sports delegation to attend the opening ceremonies of the 29th Olympic Games in China.

The 29th Olympic Games in Beijing is scheduled to start on Friday and end on August 24.
