Pakistan, Iran to form joint strategy against cross-border smuggling and terrorism

Pakistan and Iran on Tuesday agreed to form a joint strategy against smuggling and terrorism across the border between the two countries.

This was stated by Pakistani Interior Ministry advisor Rehman Malik while addressing a news conference along with visiting Iranian acting minister for interior, Mehdi Hashmi in Islamabad.

Both the countries also agreed to form a joint committee to overcome Shia-Sunni differences.

Rehman Malik said that the Iranian minister met prime minister and conveyed a special message from Iranian president. He said both countries want to curb smuggling and convert it into trade.

He said Pakistan wants to seek Iranian cooperation in expansion of tourism, trade and industrial sector.

He said the Iranian side promised to resolve the problem of shortage of electricity in Pakistan.

He said Iran has surplus electricity which can be utilized in Pakistan to overcome the load shedding.

He said Minister of Water and Power Raja Pervez Ashraf has already taken up the matter with the Iranian government.
