Secretary of the Guardian Council Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati said here Tuesday that an institution like the Guardian Council is unique in its kind in Islamic countries.
Ayatollah Jannati said in a meeting with a group of visiting Indonesian al-Ulima Assembly delegation that Muslim ulema and figures' visit to different countries is necessary and helpful.
He said that in the Islamic Republic of Iran, Islam is dominant and all the laws are Islamic with its leadership being wise, Muslim, brave, and prudent cleric -- something not observed in many Muslim states.
He said that the Guardian Council has the grave duty of safeguarding Islam and the Constitution and interpreting the Constitution.
He added that the Guardian Council is also in charge of overseeing elections.
Head of the Indonesian delegation Omar Shahab said for his part that he hopes during their visit, Indonesian officials will benefit from Iran's rich experiences.
He said a nine-member council is in charge of safeguarding the law in Indonesia.
