UAE envoy refutes claims of Iranians' mistreatment at airport

Tehran, July 16, IRNA

Iran-UAE-Passengers
The UAE Ambassador to Tehran Khalifa Shahin al-Marri on Wednesday ruled out reports that the Dubai Airport officers had mistreated Iranian passengers.

Al-Marri said in a press release, a copy of which was made available to IRNA on Wednesday, that the claim that some persons or people of certain nationalities are subjected to special kind of behavior due to their nationality is rejected.

He said the UAE airports' staff should act on their duty towards passengers and be responsible. "These people hold some
responsibilities vis-a-vis their country and some vis-a-vis passengers."
He added that the security and customs inspection officers at the UAE airports have undergone necessary professional training as well as special education for rendering services to people.

He however admitted occurrence of certain events in the country's airports and said most events happen due to passengers' "impatience and intolerance."
Terming the Iran-UAE ties "solid" as they are linked with an old civilization, the diplomat said the UAE airports are in toppest level of security, welfare and health in international standards.

He said the claims that certain people and nationals were mistreated is not true because the UAE aims turning into hub of tourism in the world as 65 million passengers travel through Dubai Airport a year.

Iran's Ambassador to the UAE Hamid-Reza Asefi recently told a UAE media that certain Iranian officials were mistreated and that he had informed the UAE officials of the complaint.

Asefi underlined that disrespect for Iranian citizens is unacceptable and the practice should no longer be repeated.
