Iran-Armenians-President
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Tuesday underscored the need for coexistence of followers of all divine religions.
He made the remarks in his message on the occasion of global registration of Armenian churches in Iran.
Followers of all divine religions have been living in peace and tranquility along the Iranian history, he said, adding that members of the Iranian minority groups have always enjoyed freedom in performing their religious rituals.
Elsewhere in his message, the president said that members of the religious minority have always made efforts for prosperity of the country and peace and tranquility.
"Such efforts were fully manifested in victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, establishment of the Islamic Republic and the eight-year defense to thwart US-backed Iraqi invasion in 1980-1988."
President Ahmadinejad appreciated efforts made by Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO) to register the monuments and historical sites of the Armenian community in different parts of Iran as the world heritage.
Such an effort aims at respecting followers of religious minorities and is an indication to freedom of religion in the Islamic Republic of Iran, he added.
