Hosseini urges broader Iran-China cooperation

Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said here Monday that Iran and China should expand cooperation in different fields.

Hosseini told Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun that based on current realities, a bright prospect is ahead of the Tehran- Beijing relations.

He said the two sides should exchange more diplomatic and media delegations.

He went on to say that Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is to take part in the inaugural of Beijing Paralympics Games as well as the opening of the Olympic Games per coordination made by Vice- President and Head of the Physical Training Organization of Iran.

The two sides at the meeting emphasized that Iran's nuclear problem should be settled through peaceful means.

They said there are common points in the proposed packages of Iran and the G5+1 that can serve as a basis for constructive talks.

Zhai said Iran and China have very good potential for promotion of mutual cooperation and "we consider a bright prospect for relations between the two countries."
He predicted that volume of mutual transactions will reach about dlrs 30 billion by March 20, 2009.

Based on statistics, volume of trade relations between Iran and China reached dlrs 12 billion in the first five months of 2008, which is expected to reach about dlrs 30 billion by December the same year, he said, adding that statistical studies show that the ties showed about 57 percent growth compared to similar period the previous year.
