Iran-Germany-Boroujerdi
The US government seeks face-to-face dialogue with Iran while forcing other countries to limit their ties with the Islamic Republic, said an Iranian lawmaker.
Head of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Ala'eddin Boroujerdi made the remark in a meeting with visiting Head of Socialist Christian Party Fraction at German Bundestag (parliament) Piester der Ramsouer here on Sunday.
Boroujerdi said Iran and Germany share many potentials for expansion of mutual cooperation and relations, especially in the parliamentary domain.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Boroujerdi expressed deep concern over unprecedented rise in poppy cultivation in Afghanistan in recent years and said, "Failure to launch serious campaign against drugs means helping al-Qaeda since huge revenues gained from drugs trafficking will serve as a backing for world's terrorist groups."
He said that Iran's principled policy is based on the campaign to fight drug smuggling in the region and international cooperation in the field is widely needed.
Touching on the presence of foreign forces in Iraq which have added to the instability and insecurity in the country and the region, the Iranian lawmaker said, "The key to resolving crisis in Iraq is regional cooperation and Iran is ready for any efforts to guarantee security and stability there."
Touching on Lebanon, Boroujerdi said that military strikes and unilateral decisions are not the solution to Lebanese crisis.
"Contrary to the US, Iran considers a calm Lebanon in favor of the region and believes that the tranquility should come from within the country and not dictated from outside."
He referred to Iran's serious and constant campaign against terrorist groups in the post-1979 Islamic Revolution era and said the Iranian nation expects the German government to prevent the presence of the terrorist groups in Germany.
Ramsouer said, for his part, that Iran is of special significance in German foreign policy.
"Given Iran's pivotal role in regional developments, especially in Iraq, Central Asia and Arab part of the Middle East, expansion of ties with Iran has special importance for Germany," he added.
Lauding Iran's campaign against poppy cultivation and drugs trafficking, the German parliamentarian said his country is in efforts to draw up a comprehensive and clear-cut plan to check poppy cultivation and drug trafficking and to this end, Iran's cooperation is needed.
He also stressed the campaign against terrorist groups and said German government will use all its capacity to prevent the activity of terrorist groups on its soil.
