Diplomats to be taken to Iran hospital for medical treatment

Baghdad, May 17, IRNA

Iran-Iraq-Terror
Three Iranian diplomats and one local staff of Iranian Embassy in Baghdad, wounded in an assassination attempt on May 15, will be transferred to Iran for medical treatment.

Iranian Embassy spokesman Manouchehr Taslimi said on Saturday that Mohammad Hashemi and Mojtaba Khodabandeh, hospitalized in Baghdad hospital, are in stable condition and for further treatment they will be transferred to Iran to accompany Majid Jaberi and Behrouz Ramezan-Pour.

On Thursday, US agents opened fire on their motorcade at the diplomatic compound on northern neighborhood of Baghdad.

Iran said on Saturday that it will not withhold support for the government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki despite Thursday's terror attack on Iranian diplomats in Baghdad.

"Tehran will continue support for the Iraqi government and will spare no efforts to strengthen bilateral ties," the Iranian Embassy in Baghdad said in a statement released on Saturday.

It added that Iraqi security officials promised to arrest those involved in the terrorist operation and hand them over to Iraqi judiciary officials.
