President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Wednesday condoled with his Chinese counterpart, President Hu Jintao, on the country's quake disaster.

In his message, the president offered condolences to the Chinese government, nation, and the bereaved families of the victims of the killer quake.

Nearly 10,000 people were killed in the 7.9 magnitude earthquake that hammered Sichuan province in southwest China on Monday.

According to reports, the number of victims of the killer quake, China's worst earthquake in three decades, is likely to soar.

The Sichuan quake was the worst to hit China since the 1976 Tangshan tremor in northeastern China where up to 300,000 people died.
