President hails scholars on Teachers' Day

Tehran, May 1, IRNA

Iran-President-Teacher's Day
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad hailed on Thursday efforts made by Iranian teachers, academics and scientists in a meeting held on the occasion of the National Teachers' Day.

Addressing a group of academics, scholars and elites at the Presidential premises, President Ahmadinejad said that performance of Iran's universities as well as scientific and research institutes were the "source of honor for the country."
Iranians celebrate Teachers' Day on May 1 each year in memory of Ayatollah Morteza Motahhari, a man who devoted his life to opening up and writing about Islamic teachings and who was martyred on the same day in 1980.

Referring to the recent scientific and technical breakthroughs made by Iranian scholars and scientists, the president added those great achievements were resulted from efforts made by Iran's hardworking experts in military, space, industrial and nanotechnology fields.
