Iran-Musicians
High Council and Board of Directors of Music House planned to restore rights of musicians.
In a meeting presided by noted Iranian vocalist Mohammad Reza Shajarian, the Council unveiled plans to vindicate rights of musicians, IRNA cultural news service said.
The Board also discussed the problems facing the music sector and issued a statement at the end of the meeting.
The statement reads that despite existence of the law to support the rights of composers, it has not yet taken effect and Culture and Islamic Guidance Ministry which is responsible for implementing the law has not yet made a decision to support the musicians as it does for filmmakers in campaign against film piracy.
Unfortunately, illegal distribution of music products has caused a serious damage to those involved in the field, the statement said.
"On the other hand, in spite of the law's transparency, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) refuses to observe the law and pay the musicians' rights."
The statement said that the Music House's High Council and Board of Directors intend to overcome the problems demanding the IRIB, Ministry of Culture and the Islamic Guidance and Majlis implement the law.
The statement also said that for years the organizers of concerts in different halls are facing a new phenomenon named charge of police services, which is undertaken by the artists.
In addition to appreciating police for their efforts to safeguard security of the city, Music House maintains that there is no special law or bylaw in this regard based on which the artists are obliged to pay the money, the statement said.
