Quake hits northern Iran

Iran-Gonbad Kavous-Quake
An earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale jolted the city of Gonbad-e Kavous in this northern province on Thursday.

According to the seismological base of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the quake was registered at 09:50 local time (0520 GMT).

There are no reports of any casualty or damage to property caused by the quake.

With a population of 290,000 people, Gonbad-e Kavous is located at eastern part of the province.

Iran is often hit by quakes of varying magnitudes as it sits on some of the world's most active seismic fault lines.
